The joy was palpable at Ueno’s brightly lit, warm and modern (but not too modern, if you know what we mean) offices this morning as word got out that we were included on Ad Age’s list of Best Places to Work in 2019.
Ad Age’s score reflects how happy people are with six key things at their places of work: benefits, culture, personal development, environment, engagement and perks.
“I am obviously very pleased with this and proud of you all,” said Haraldur Thorleifsson, founder and CEO, addressing the team after he heard the news. “I'm especially proud of the person making up this quote for our press release,” he continued, while subtly gesturing to the caterers to bring in our delicious daily lunch.
The only shadow cast by the announcement was the fact that Ueno is still on the list of agencies with under 200 employees. “Sixty people isn’t enough. There should be more of us,” said Thorleifsson, his voice booming over the satellite connection to our offices in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles and Reykjavík.
Ueno employees, no strangers to happiness and joy in their workplace, were nonetheless unusually enthusiastic. “This comes as no surprise to me,” said Liz Donovan, Head of Marketing in New York, as she headed towards the fridge, fully stocked with LaCroix as always.
“I've been happy,” said Gene Ross, Designer in San Francisco, “but never like this. Also, follow me on Instagram.”
